Salem City FC Set to Play Home Matches at New RJ Reynolds Stadium

After spending the past two seasons playing home games at Truist Park in Bermuda Run, the club made the big decision to play games at the newly built, multi-million dollar M. Douglass Crater Stadium for the 2026 season.

A lot went into the final decision to make Crater the new home turf. The staff discussed many things such as fan experience, quality of facility, and organizational goals. After going through multiple options, the staff believed that Crater would provide the strongest fit as the new location.

“The move to a more central, metropolitan location allows us to better connect with the kind of atmosphere we’re trying to build. One where supporters can gather before kickoff, walk together, and create a matchday experience that feels energetic,” Owner/Creative Director Matt Barnhart said.

Now that the team has officially made the move, fans and staff are starting to see the changes that come with the venue. The stadium has already impacted the team and their supporters. During games, the fans will be the 12th man and play a bigger part than ever.

“I would love to see packed stands, including standing room for occasions when the bleachers are full,” Barnhart said.

This move comes with a lot of perks for the team. It brings a significant boost in capacity, as the stadium is able to hold anywhere between 2,100 and 2,500 spectators, which provides the team with a more professional atmosphere during matchdays. The new stadium will give the players and fans a completely different experience compared to the club’s previous field. It also speaks to the growth of the organization since being reestablished in 2024.

“It shows that we’re really trying to connect with the community. Being out in Clemmons wasn’t the most ideal situation,” goalkeeper Sean Bohan said. “People in the community are delighted to have us close, and it gives the team more of an opportunity to connect with our fans.”

Salem City will open its home schedule this Saturday at 7 p.m. against Appalachian FC. The match will mark the debut of the club’s new home venue, with a larger crowd expected to back the team and usher in a new era for Salem City FC. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to take in the atmosphere and be part of the first matchday experience at RJ Reynolds Stadium.
