The goal of the USL Academy is to create optimal player development environments and provide local youth prospects the best chance of reaching the professional level.
The USL Academy establishes a high-level pre-professional training environment, with a direct connection to the local USL senior team. It provides meaningful games to aid in those players’ development and to provide all clubs an opportunity to compete amongst each other in regionalized competition.
USL Academy displays strong competition and growth for academy teams across the country through competitive play and development attributions. This year, The USL Academy will consist of a 9 month program with winter and spring sessions, followed by a summer season that runs concurrent with USL 2, mirroring a professional environment in order to allow for young talents to train and play at the highest level.
Salem City FC is committed to fostering local talent and creating a culture of excellence, and establishing a reduced cost Academy is a major step toward that goal. As the new season approaches, the club looks forward to welcoming dedicated young players who are ready to take their game to the next level—without the burden of financial strain.
For many aspiring soccer players, cost can be a significant hurdle in pursuing high-level training and competition. Operating under The Salem City Foundation, we are working to eliminate league fees for the Academy, making the sport more accessible, allowing talented athletes to focus on their growth and performance rather than financial concerns.
Salem City FC competes in USL system, the proven gateway to professional soccer in America, and the league that has launched more professional careers than any other pre-professional competition in the country. The USL pathway runs directly from where your player trains this summer all the way to the USL Championship and beyond, with scouts, coaches, and clubs at every level of that system paying attention. When you develop with Salem City FC, you’re improving your game as well as stepping into a structure that is designed, from the ground up, to take players pro.
The U12 to U14 years are the foundation everything else is built on. This is the age where players absorb technical skills fastest, develop their relationship with the ball, and begin to understand the game at a deeper level. The habits formed in these years, good or bad, follow a player for the rest of their career.
The years between U15 and U17 are the most critical development window in a player's journey. This is where technical habits are hardened, physical attributes are built, and the tactical understanding that separates good players from elite ones begins to take shape. The work done in these years does not just prepare a player for the next season; it determines who they are at U18 and beyond.
U18 is where potential becomes a decision. College programs, academy scouts, and professional clubs are watching at this level, and the window to make an impression is narrower than it has ever been. Salem City FC exists for exactly this moment, giving U18 players the elite environment, qualified coaching, and honest development feedback they need to make the most of the time they have left to define their future.
